On Mother’s Day this year, my mum passed away after a long illness. For the final five years of her life, she was in a hospital bed 24/7. We had carers and nurses coming and going all the time, and my dad and I did as much as we could to keep her looked after and comfortable. The view from her room was of this field. In the evening on the day before her funeral, I went out with Heather to sit and watch the sunset. It was nice to take in the calm of evening, the warmth of the spring sun. Heather enjoyed herself too, nibbling at the grass and doing some jumping around, but she didn’t go far from my side.

These trees look lovely at this time of year.

Heather taking it all in.

Sheep, cameras and sunsets are some of my favourite things. It helped keep my head on straight as we had a big day tomorrow.

It was very peaceful just to spend some time with Heather.
